"W.I.N.—Women in NORMI"
A training especially designed for the woman NORMI professional and the woman who is the support person for a NORMI professional. During this time together we will cover various topics such as " Breaking Barriers in the Mold Business", " What Makes a Woman Mold Inspector Special", " Building a Mold Business from a woman’s perspective. "Basics of the Profession – for the woman who wants to support her Mold Professional such as how to answer basic questions when the phone rings and the pro is not at home!, how to network for your husband; Understanding the paperwork." There will be a time for questions and answers from women experts.
"Maximizing NORMI Websites"
The student will learn how to utilize the NORMI.org website by learning how to properly navigate the websites and optimize his own NORMIPro.com website. Training will be offered on how to edit it and add resources. For this practical, hands-on course, the student should bring his personal laptop as wireless Internet access will be provided in the meeting room.
"Your 2009 Business Plan"
This course is designed to help the student develop a business plan using the NORMI Seven-Step Business Model. Developing a business plan includes understanding the most effective organizational structure (LLC, Inc., etc.), organizing the office (we will discuss the needed office and start-up equipment), and putting together long-term and short terms goals (this discussion includes the marketing plan and ways to evaluate the effectiveness of your plan).
"Construction 101"
Regardless of the certification, each member needs to understand the basics of the construction process, the flow of information, the language, how decisions are made, and the techniques and technologies that need to be addressed to provide the correct information to the customer. HVAC Systems, their different parts, function, and value to improving indoor air quality solutions will be an area of special emphasis in this class along with discussions regarding EFIS, building envelopes, and specific construction terminology. This will be a great class for anyone interested in knowing more about buildings.
"Understanding Mold-Free Construction"
"Mold-Free Construction", by Doug Hoffman, is the basis for the NORMI Sanitization Protocol. The student will be taken through the book, chapter-by-chapter, so he will better understand how each phase of the construction process, when completed properly, supports the need for the 36 points of the Sanitization Protocol. This course is especially helpful for the student who wishes to understand the thinking behind all of the NORMI protocols.
"Indoor Air Quality Solutions"
by Allen Johnston, CTO activTek Environmental Allen Johnston, Chief Technology Officer for activTek Environmental, will present a lecture on indoor air quality technologies as they provide solutions for indoor air quality issues. Filtration, ionization, ozonation, germicidal uv, and NASA Certified Space Technology will be explained in detail as these technologies become the foundation for virtually every IAQ solution in the marketplace. Time will also be dedicated to discuss the newest technology in energy savings and surge protection called PowerwoRx. NON-Conference attendees will pay a $10 per person cover charge at the door for this special event as this event is not included in the cost of the conference.
"Diagnostic Tool of the Trade—Onset HOBO"
This course is designed specifically around the Onset HOBO. This tool is invaluable to the effective evaluation of indoor environments and it is imperative that the student understand how they work and the software that supports each. The student is encouraged to bring his personal laptop loaded with the appropriate software so he can be directed on how to upload, download, program, and read these diagnostic tools.
"Diagnostic Tool of the Trade—ATP Luminometer and Thermal Imaging"
This course is designed specifically around the Hygiena ATP Luminometer and Thermal Imaging. Each of these tools are invaluable to the effective evaluation of indoor environments and it is imperative that the student understand how each works as an effective diagnostic tool. The student is encouraged to bring his personal laptop loaded with the appropriate software so he can be directed on how to upload, download, program, and read this diagnostic tools. Special Guest, Chris Seffrin from InfraSpection, will discuss the value of thermal imaging for the inspection process.
"Understanding Laboratory Reports"
EnviroScreening provides a range of sampling tools and differing reports. Students will learn the differences between reporting methods, interpretation of the reports, the chain of custody procedures, and kit options available through this State of Texas Certified Environmental Lab. An introduction to the new EnviroScreening Biodegradable Green Index will be a part of this short course.
"Bacteria/Mold Sampling"
This class is designed to give instruction on the sampling techniques when collecting fungi or bacteria samples. New reporting methods will be discussed as EnviroScreening provides bacteria sampling to include MRSA/VRE and other "Super-Bug" organisms.
"Understanding Biodegradable Products"
EnviroScreening Lab has developed a Biodegradable Green Index by which chemicals can be evaluated for safety and effectiveness. The attendee will be introduced to this new program and understand the need for and value of determining the biodegradability of toxic and non-toxic chemistry.
"The Green Building Initiative"
This is an opportunity to discuss the value of green technologies and their inclusion in the NORMI business plan. NORMI is a member of the USGBA (USGBA.org) and provides continuing education credits for architects and other industry professionals. You will learn how to appropriate use the "green movement" to market and advance your business.
"Computer Efficiency"
This class is designed to familiarize the student with software applications needed to run your business including, but not limited to, accounting, database management, word processing, etc. The teacher will provide resources for purchasing and being trained on specific software programs that every business owner should have to succeed.
"Marketing Your Business"
NORMI is conducting a survey of its entire membership to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing ideas. The results of this survey, conducted throughout the United States and Canada, will be discussed in detail along with new and aggressive marketing concepts. You won’t want to miss this opportunity to discuss your advertising and marketing program.
"Tuesday Night LIVE CE Training"
The regularly scheduled Tuesday Night CE Training for ACTIVE Members will be broadcast LIVE from the 2009 Training Conference. A panel of experts will be positioned with their laptops at the front of the room as Della White, Board Member and Senior Training, will facilitate two hours of CE Training. Attendees are encouraged to attend with their laptops and headsets so they can join in on the interviewing process asking and answering questions from the audience and those participants online.
"Potential Income with Remediation Training"
This class is designed to help the student understand the importance of the QMR/CMR training. More often the CMI/CMA is being asked to serve as a Project Superintendent for an upcoming remediation project. The student will learn the difference between sanitization and remediation, the standard protocols used to complete the remediation process, the legal protection afforded those who pursue these projects, and the limitations of the CMI/CMA trainings in reference to Certificates of Sanitization.
"Residual Income with NORMI Warranties"
The NORMI Certificates of Sanitization are the basis for the indoor air quality warranty and certification program for builders. Each of these programs provide a residual income to the NORMI Member who understands and utilizes these programs. This class will explain the details of obtaining and maintaining the Healthier Home Warranty, the Healthier Home Certification for Builders, and how to market each.
"NORMI Professionalism"
This discussion will include how to present yourself, telephone etiquette, professional appearance of marketing tools, and other factors that will allow the student to create a more professional image in his business and get an edge on the competition who may have similar or the same credentials.
"Becoming a Local Expert"
This class will teach you how to address large groups in an instructional setting. The A.I.A., FRAP, CEE, and QST programs use a business model that enable you to teach others so YOU become the trainer, the local "go-to" guy for mold, indoor air quality, and other problems they might deal with. Learn how to utilize these programs and tap your potential as an effective public communicator.
"Panel Discussion of Experts"
"Experts" are those who know more and have, to some degree, perfected their craft. This is an opportunity to learn from their failures and successes in a Q&A format and open discussion. Many opinions will be shared and attendees will learn valuable lessons and mistakes to avoid from those who have "been there, done that."
"Introduction to Certified Environmental Educator"
This class is designed to train you how to become an educator in the areas of indoor air quality, drinking water, and other healthy living technologies. This class is presented as an introduction to the extended class which will be offered onsite throughout the country as well as online and through the self-study option.
