The IAQ Wholistic Methodology
“There are no magic wands!”
You filled out an IAQ (Indoor Air Quality) survey before we sampled your home. Each person who completed the survey rated the air within their living space as last than a 10. Many who completed the survey believe the air within their environment is making them or members of their family sick. The EPA has said that “seven out of ten homes in America have elevated levels of bio-contaminants in the air they breathe” and we believe this might help explain our surveys.
We wish we could tell you that there is a “magic wand” out there that would make the air in your home perfect. There have been a lot of advertising dollars spent to make people believe in “magic wands.” Like you, we have learned that “if it is too good to be true, it probably is” rings a familiar bell. The reality is, homes are very complex environments with many facts contributing to poor indoor air quality. And, if you want to improve the air within your living space, each of the contributing factors must be addressed and the problems solved in a wholistic way. Developing this total solution to your indoor air quality is called the “Wholistic Solution.”
To consider your home in a wholistic manner, three distinct areas must be addressed:
1) Air Conveyance Systems—this includes your HVAC system with the accompanying heating and/or cooling coils, ductwork, supply registers, and filter.
2) General Living Environment—including your bedrooms, living rooms, entertainment areas, and so forth.
3) Moisture Prone Areas—which includes bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms along with attics, basements, and crawl spaces.
When the report comes back from the independent laboratory, a “Profile Sheet” will be included to document problem areas in your home and to assist you in developing an IAQ Management System to improve and maintain good indoor air quality. The goal is to provide you with a practical blueprint designed for you to attain and maintain a 10 rating on the IAQ Survey sheet.
Depending on how aggressive you wish to be about implementing the IAQ Management System, this total wholisitic solution is the answer you have been looking for. If you wish, your service technician can develop an incremental approach to solving the problems and help develop a budget and timeline that fits your schedule. There will be some things that will be needed initially and he will help you prioritize those items so you can begin seeing improvement very quickly.
Also included in the report will be an IAQ Maintenance Checklist. We encourage you to use the checklist once a month as aprt of your total wholistic management system. To be successful, you have to roll up your shirt sleeves and apply a little elbow grease. Poor indoor air quality comes with a price tag and that could be your health. By investing time and energy into the IAQ Maintenance Checklist, you could potentially avoid paying for the adverse health effects you and your family pay for poor indoor air quality.
We want to thank you for participating in this NORMI IAQ Management Program. Once again, magic wands are great in fairy tales but management systems and be budgets are much better in real life. WE wish the best health for you and your family. With the structure that you have been provided in this report, we are confident you will achieve a better, healthier indoor environment.
