| The PSML 1500 Beta Test Project
NORMI would like to thank all of you for volunteering to participate in this important BETA test program for the PSML 1500. This program is another milestone in NORMI’s quest to provide the highest standards, educational programs, and services for the IAQ mold industry. As the mold sector of the IAQ industry matures consumer knowledge, and appetites for products and services increases. New demands arise that outpace the ability of providers to service those demands. Right now millions of Americans want the air within their homes and businesses sampled and analyzed to determine if the air they are breathing is healthy or unhealthy. The problem is the pricing for such services exceeds perceived value or household budgets. Environmental consultants commonly charge between $400.00 and $1,000.00 for sampling and analysis of indoor air environments for bio-contaminants such as molds spores, pollen, dust, and particulate. The NORMI PSML 1500 program is exploring opportunities to provide the public with bio-contaminant indoor air sampling and analysis for approximately $100.00.
Tangentially ECOQUEST is interested in perusing programs that would enable their distributors to define the indoor air environments for their customers at reasonable prices. ECOQUEST is aware of the PSML 1500 BETA test program, but understand that this program is a NORMI program, not an ECOQUEST program. The information that you will be collecting is of a sensitive nature. We requested that all individuals involved in the BETA test sampling program sign a confidentiality and non-disclosure form and you have complied. We also ask that volunteers not discuss the program in whole or part with any individual beyond those directly involved with the program.
One of the most important aspects of a BETA test program is that standardization and consistency be employed. You will be receiving paperwork with directions and forms for recording observations and results. This correspondence is being provided as a general scope of the PSML 1500 BETA testing program. At times you may be referred to as the NORMI sampling tech. The first part of the program will involve the distribution of the IAQ survey sheet. We would like you to deliver the IAQ survey sheet to at least ten random residential participants. We believe that three out of ten individuals will respond positively to having the air in their homes sampled for approximately $100.00. If you want to distribute more than ten IAQ survey forms please do. However, each NORMI sampling tech will be limited to three participants for this survey. NORMI will cover the cost of the air-o-cells, the analysis and the reports for the three participants so there will be no cost to the participants partaking in the program. It is important for you to find the three participants who you feel the most significant IAQ problems and you can only choose participants who were initially willing to pay to have sampling conducted for approximately $100.00.
We will be using the most common sampling methods for defining bio-contaminants within indoor environments. That is the air-o-cell cassette. The air-o-cell cassettes will be drawn from the middle of the isolated areas approximately 5 feet above the floor. The pump will be calibrated to draw 15 liters of air per minute with the air-o-cell cassette attached to the end of the intake line. The samples will be drawn through the cassette for five minutes with each air-o-cell cassette sampling a total of 75 liters of air. Once 75 liters of air have been drawn through the air-o-cell cassettes the cassettes will be removed from the pumps and immediately sealed. The cassettes will then be marked and recorded and sent to the laboratory for analysis.
After the indoor air sample has been drawn the same procedure will be employed to sample the outdoor air. Please stay within fifty feet of the structure when sampling the outdoor air and make sure when sampling the air-o-cell cassette is about five feet off the ground when the air is being drawn. The outdoor sample will serve as a baseline sample. We are interested in comparing the differences between the inside air-o-cell and the outside or baseline samples. We will be noting divergences between quantity and species of the indoor and outdoor samples in our reports where these divergences are significant special attention will be taken to define health risks that we commonly linked to heightened levels of the analyzed bio-contaminants.
Your participation in this project will contribute valuable information in three key areas of the PSML 1500 program. First, we are very interested to see if our IAQ survey form can be used as a simple tool to find individuals interested in having their indoor air environments tested for bio-contaminants. If the NORMI sampling tech in total distribute three hundred surveys we feel as though a significant number of those canvassed will respond positively to wanting the air in their homes tested. The ease of distributing a form and having individuals qualify themselves as potential customers is a key to the success of the PSML 1500 program. Next we hope to be able to provide a system and structure of paperwork and documentation that will secure the skill set necessary for a majority of ECOQUEST distributors to become proficient as air-o-cell samplers. The demand for defining indoor air environments is huge. If properly trained by NORMI, ECOQUEST distributors could provide a great service to customers of both residential and commercial environments. Third we are very interested in discovering if the 90 participants chosen for this program with perceived indoor air quality issues have actual indoor air quality issues that can be easily defined by air-o-cell sampling and laboratory analysis.
Once again, NORMI would like to thank you very much for your participation in this PSML 1500 BETA test sampling project. Upon completion of the project we will distribute results and analysis to you. Your confidentiality if of the highest importance and will be mandatory until the final report is distributed. Millions of Americans are concerned or are experiencing negative health effects caused by the unhealthy indoor air they are breathing. Your participation is going to lead to a healthier America.
