LUMINOMETER SCREENING
DEFINITION of ATP A substance called adenosine triphosphate (ATP) links most cellular chemical reactions. To obtain energy to do cellular work, organisms take energy-rich compounds such as glucose into the cell and enzymatically break them down to release their potential energy. Principally, energy is trapped and stored in the form of adenosine triphosphate or ATP.
PRACTICAL DESCRIPTION A firefly produces an enzyme in his tail and when it is mixed with the ATP he produces, his tail lights up in the darkness. This luminescence is measurable and the ATP Luminometer can then quantify the amount of ATP present. It cannot IDENTIFY the organism but can certainly measure the level of contamination.

METHODOLOGY By using the Ultrasnap swab, you can swab a 4"x4" (16 square inches) area, break the "reagent" and shake the swab before placing it into the ATP Luminometer. This pre-screening reading should be read as a level of contamination without identifying what that contamination might be. After applying the NORMI Approved Protectant to the surface, a post-screening using the same Ultrasnap System will often show a substantial reduction in surface bacteriological contamination.
